Farewell Message


This has been a long journey and I understand how intensive this course has been but we have reached the destination. I hope you have enjoyed the reading class - I am aware that sometimes was too much but I must say I am very proud of you especially for being enthusiastic in blogging. I am sure you have found a lot of useful resources in the class blog and you can have access to it even after finishing the course. Best wishes to all of you in your futher journey and I will miss you...

Biography

Sometimes, a biography describes a person's whole life from birth to death. At other times, the writer concentrates on a particular period in a person's life. We will be reading biographies of famous Australian and other people. We will practise completing a time line, making notes of key points such as events, turning points, achievements.

THE LEGAL SYSTEM


The law affects almost everything you do and in each situations, the law is there to protect you. We will be learning about the legal system that consists of a number of institutions such as parliaments, courts and prisons. In this unit we will cover the court structure - hierarchy, juries, making laws, rights, responsibilities and protection under the law.

Health - Childhood Obesity

We have started the topic Health and we will cover the health system in Australia compared to systems in your native countries. We will focus on Obesity as a problem all around the world. You will be exposed to different text types such as graphic texts and research reports aimed for the general audience.
Task: Read the fact sheet about
Obesity in Children and then answer the given questions about it in your blogs.

· What is obesity?
· What are the reasons for obesity in children?
· Is obesity only a national problem? · What do statistics show?
· What is making worse the obesity problem?
· Does obesity have an impact on children’s health?
· If yes, explain how?
· What are the other impacts caused by obesity in children?

The Sydney Morning Herald, The Australian and The Daily Telegraph. Current concerns are usually, immediately covered by the press and it will mean you quickly become familiar with some of the debates in both the local and macro environment.
Class Activity - Take some notes after reading the article which was given to you by your classmate
Homework: Summary - Write a brief summary of the main issues the article deals with based on your notes
Personal reflection - Respond in a written format about your attitudes, feelings, reflections on the content and implications of the article.
